Sympathetic Trunk (Chain)

The Sympathetic Trunk (Chain) extends on both sides of the vertebral column. The trunk (chain) and its ganglia are present from the second cervical vertebra (C2) to the base of the coccyx. The sacral portion of the sympathetic trunk (chain) is located medial to the anterior pelvic foramina and the anterior rami of L4-5 and S1-5. The sacral sympathetic trunk (chain) gives rise to gray rami on its lateral side, and sacral splanchic branches on its medial side.
