Intercostal Nerves

The Intercostal nerves are located between the two innermost layers of the intercostal space. The first six intercostal nerves innervate the intercostal space. The seventh through eleventh intercostal nerves innervate thoracic and abdominal structures. The subcostal nerve distributes to the anterior abdominal wall, rectus abdominus, and suprapubic area.

Shingles is a viral infection of the spinal ganglion. Shingles is characterized by a vesicular pattern consistent with dermatome distribution.
