Ischial Tuberosity

The Ischial Tuberosity is a useful landmark. It is the attachment site for the hamstrings (semitendinosus, semimembranosus, and long head of biceps femoris), as well as the gluteus maximus, inferior gemellus, adductor magnus, and quadratus femoris muscles. It is also the attachement site for the sacrotuberous and the long posterior sacroiliac ligaments. In the sitting position the weight of the body rests on the ischial tuberosities.
