Superficial Transverse Perineus

These muscles are associated with the superficial perineal space. The Superficial Transverse Perineus is poorly represented as thin strips of muscle that extend from the ischial tuberosity to the central tendon. The Bulbospongiosus forms a sphincter around the base of the penis and acts as a constictor of the vaginal orifice. The Ischiocavernosus compress the crura of the penis (clitoris), impede venous return, and maintain erection.
