The Omohyoid has two bellies
with an intermediate tendon. The superior belly
courses from the hyoid bone to a fascial sling above the clavicle. The intermediate
tendon passes through the fascial sling. The inferior belly extends from this
point to the scapula. The ansa cervicalis innervates the omohyoid.
The omohyoid is a useful surgical landmark. It demarcates the underlying internal jugular vein, and the site of the bifurcation of the common carotid artery.
