Subclavian Vein

The Subclavian vein begins at the lateral border of the first rib as a continuation of the axillary vein. It lies anterior to the scalenus anterior. It joins the internal jugular vein to form the brachiocephalic vein. Its main tributary is the external jugular vein.

The right subclavian vein is often the point of entry to the venous system for central line placement.
