Common Carotid
The right Common Carotid Artery arises from the brachiocephalic trunk posterior to the right sternoclavicular joint. The left common carotid artery arises from the arch of the aorta.

The terminal part of the common carotid artery is dilated at the point of origin of the internal carotid artery to form the carotid sinus (baroreceptors). At the bifurcation of the common carotid, the carotid body (chemoreceptor) lies embedded in the tunica adventitia.
