Suboccipital Nerve

The Suboccipital nerve emerges from the floor of the suboccipital triangle, often coursing between the vertebral artery and the posterior arch of C1. This nerve lacks cutaneous distribution. The posterior root of C1 is small compared to other posterior roots. The suboccipital nerve innervates the suboccipital musculature, and the semispinalis capitis and splenius muscles.
