Lateral Cutaneous Branch of the Iliohypogastric Nerve
Anterior Cutaneous Branch of the Iliohypogastric Nerve
The iliohypogastric (L1) nerve courses along the iliac crest. Medial to the anterior superior iliac spine, it penetrates the substance of the internal abdominal oblique muscle as the Anterior Cutaneous Branch to the skin of the lower anterior abdominal wall. The Lateral Cutaneous Branch arises from the iliohypogastric nerve trunk prior to the anterior iliac spine and supplies the skin of the lateral hip region.
